Hello there Odd friends! You’ve got Judy here with you today and we are going to have some fun with CRAYONS! As a kid, there was no better gift than the BIG box of crayons (with a sharpener on back). You know the ones I’m talking about, don’t you? I even love the smell of crayons….they really should make that into an air freshener fragrance!
If you have spent any amount of time on Pinterest, you’ve probably seen crayon drip art. My little project is taking that idea and adding touch of ODD to it. If you want to try this project, you will need: a canvas, crayons, a heat gun or hair dryer, paint for the ground, a colored Some Odd Girl image, adhesive/tape, and an extra stamped image to use as mask. Any crayon colors work – I wanted mine to look like rain, so I only used blues and grays.
I have seen this project with the crayons left on the canvas and with them removed. If you only want the drips to show, just tape crayons and remove them after melting. I like the idea of the full crayon showing as a part of the finished project, so I glued mine in place.
Paint the bottom of your canvas and cover it with tape after it is dry. Add your “mask” with removable adhesive. Make sure to mask any place you DON’T want crayon drips – like under the umbrella. Once everything is in place, heat the crayons using a heat gun or hair dryer. Make sure to heat in a side to side motion and don’t hold it on one place to long to prevent over heating. Soon they will begin to melt (the FUN part!!).
After the drippy crayons have cooled, remove the mask and add your colored image in it’s place. That’s all there is too it! I used Umbrella Gwen (clear set), but Rainy Mae (digi) or Brella Fairy (digi) would work great too. There are so many possibilities!
I hope this little project has inspired you to take some of those ideas you have “pinned” and combine them with your favorite Some Odd Girl images. Don’t pin ’em and forget ’em! Roll those sleeves up and get crafty!
Don’t forget, you can always find more odd inspiration to PIN by following on Pinterest! We have boards for tutorials, videos, color inspiration, craft rooms, sketches, and of course our Some Odd Girl images!
