Tutorial from Lenny for a cute door hanger!

Hi Oddies!!

It’s Lenny here with you today!! Have you been enjoying the new clear releases from this week? They are FAB, aren’t they?

I teach French in 7th & 8th grade … so, you can imagine I totally loooove these new Odd characters.

For this post, I have a fun tutorial for you: a doorhanger (for my class room) with the new clear releases: “Frenchie Gwen” & “Frenchie Kody“.

Here’s a step by step photo tutorial …

STEP 1:

I bought a wooden doorhanger at the art supply store. (You can pick whatever you want; there are some fun wooden photo frames or boxes too.)

The first thing I did was add some Gesso.

STEP 2:

After you added the Gesso, let your project dry for a while.  Then you can pick a color (acrylic paint) for the base coat and start painting.

When you’re ready, let dry for a couple of hours.  If you can’t wait that long, you can always use your heat gun to speed up the process.

STEP 3:
After the base coat is dry, at some Gel Medium; I used the “glossy” one.

STEP 4:

Now it’s time to add some extra dimension… I used a stencil and some Distress Paints.  The Distress Paint is gonna be a little messy when you add it on top of the acrylic paint, but that’s not a problem for a project like this!

STEP 5:

I decided to add some extra “shine” …
but if you don’t like this, you can skip this step, of course! 🙂

STEP 6:

Time to pick your stamps; I used Frenchie Gwen and a sentiment from Frenchie Kody, your choice of patterned papers and embellies and whatever you want to add to your project.

STEP 7:

Because I added the Gel Medium on top of the acrylic paint, I’m gonna use it again to add my patterned papers and embellies, just to be sure that it’s all glued together very well.  For the stamped images, I used some foam squares, to give some extra dimension.  I also used some alphabet stickers to make a “statement”. 🙂  And … enamel dots (I’m addicted to enamel dots) 🙂
