More shrink plastic fun with Suzanne!
Hi, Oddies!
Suzanne here with another inspiration post featuring shrink plastic! I LOVE to use my Some Odd Girl stamps for more than just cards, and I thought you’d be inspired by this project since back-to-school time is lurking around the corner (or maybe it has arrived in your area)!
I made some shrink plastic magnets that would go great in a locker, or on a magnetic bulletin board. Here’s a close-up look at some that I made, and I’ll share some tips on working with the shrink plastic to make them look fabulous!
As you can see, these were made without coloring. I chose patterns from various Some Odd Girl clear stamp sets to make the backgrounds. The chevron pattern was made by stamping the arrow pattern from the “Make A Statement” clear set side by side. The triangles can be found in the “Hipster Kody” clear set, and the hearts are part of the “I Do” clear set.
It took me a while to figure out what size to cut the shrink plastic. I bought some flat metal bottle caps at a local craft store chain, and wanted to shrink the plastic to fit inside. The brand of plastic that I used shrinks to about one-third of the original (according to the package.)
So, with some trial and error, I found what worked well for the size of bottle cap that I had. The measurements will change depending on the size of your project, so this will give you an idea ofwhat it will look like when you try it!
Another issue that I ran into was adding text to the shrink plastic. My first attempt didn’t go so well, as you can see from the picture below. However, when I stamped the pattern on the “rough” side of the shrink plastic, and the words on the “smooth” side with Staz-On ink, it looked SO much better!
And, here’s a look at the magnets in action! I used my hot glue gun to attach the shrink plastic to the metal caps, and found that a thin layer to fill the bottle cap works best, and the hot glue also can be used to adhere the magnet to the back of the cap. You can also make clips by attaching the cap to a decorated clothespin! (The geeky glasses are in the “Preppy Pups” clear stamp set.)
So, what do you think? Pretty awesome, right? I hope you’re inspired to make something other than a card with your Some Odd Girl stamps!
Thanks so much for stopping by today! Make sure to mark your calendar, because we’re planning some TOTALLY FABULOUS sneak peeks next week of new stamps (and something more… seriously…you DO NOT want to miss this!) that will be available in the Some Odd Girl Shop in September! Newsletter subscribers and blog readers have already gotten a glimpse, but wait until you see it all in action!
