I have yet another canvas to share on the blog today!
I covered the canvas with navy paint, then with a scallop stencil I blotted distress oxide ink through the holes to make a cool pattern! I then decided that the canvas needed some silver splatters so I grabbed my pearlescent watercolors and added a lot to water to make the splatter effect. I still felt that I needed to add some sparkle so I took some stickles and added in random scales a bit of bling!
Lastly, I took a silver pigment ink pad and rubbed it along the edge to a.) hide the white edge of the canvas and b.) add a bit more silver to the layout.
After the background dried (again make sure that all the stickles and pigment ink is dry before adding anything else to your canvas/ card) I then cut out a silver shimmery heart to ground my image and then glued Mermaid Queen to it.
I then tried to decide where to put the sand dollar metal embellishments on the canvas. I was hoping for a layered look, but because I had already glued down my heart and didn’t really have any other embellishments I could add, I kept it simple and placed them in each corner. My Aunt loves sand dollars so I just had to add them!
Lastly I grabbed some bristol smooth cardstock and with a copic that matched my mermaid I scribbled a flat layer of colour on top of the paper, then ran the paper through my big shot, and heat embossed my sentiment.
I added a hook to the back of it and then wrapped it up in a big plastic envelope so that it was protected.
My aunt really loved it! she thought, “if she was a mermaid this is how she would look” and she had a bit of a squeal over the metal sand dollars.
She made me ponder what type of mermaid I would be… I came up with a kind-hearted mermaid who helps all the aquatic animals. What type of mermaid would you be?
Just a quick reminder that our current Some Odd Girl Challenge only has 4 days left! The theme is a easy one, just use the colour scheme Blue, Teal, and Greens (think water themed colours) and Some Odd Girl stamp to make a project, then submit it on the blog for your chance to win freebies! who doesn’t love Freebies!
Lots of hugs,
