Digi Me Contest Winner – Fighter Gwen

Good morning, Oddies! Alexis here with a new super exciting Digi release. We had such a blast during the Digi Me Contest and we loved seeing everyone’s submissions, and finally the time has come to start showing off the winners creations! We start this week with Fighter Gwen. She’s so cute and retro I just love her, and the super awesome Sara Schumann did some AH-Mazing things with this Digi Stamp and it was such a pleasure getting to work with her as a guest designer for this release.

This was her winning mood board and Kristy designed the perfect matching stamp. Her first project was a shadow box card for her friend Tama, who is the midst of her breast cancer (named Madge) battle and hates the color pink.  On the back is the Stuart Scott quote “You beat cancer by HOW you live, WHY you live, and the manner in which you live”.  The second project is a gate-fold box card for a friend whose strength has inspired her thru her 2 year breast cancer battle.

Are these fantastic, or what?! I know you can’t wait to go get them from the new Some Odd Girl shop (Have you seen how new and shiny it is?!) You’ll also find a new Digi called Tiger Piper in the shop today too, so snag up that cutie while you’re there!

Knit Kit with Sweater Kaylee

Hi Oddlets!

It’s Linda here with a fun tutorial on how to create a label or label-gift-tag for a nice winter gift!

I’m using the brand spankin’ new Sweater Kaylee clear stamp set today, and it is SUCH a cute one!  (She’s available on her own, or as part of the Sunshine Sorbet Bundle deal!)

I thought since it’s winter here in Australia, it’d be a fun gift to give a knitting-fanatic-friend-of-mine a big luscious basket of wool.  I know I’d like a gift like that!

You could also easily make this tag as a label for any winter clothes you have in storage (storage needs pretty labeling too, doesn’t it?!) or if you’re into labeling drawers as well, that would be super cute!

Here’s what I mean.

Ok let’s get started.

First, get comfy, and set up a few episodes of your favorite-to-craft-to show…

DSC00376

Once you’ve got that sorted, take a piece of canvas (I’m using the sticky-back canvas from Ranger), and cut a tag shape out of it.

Using canvas on the back of the cardstock (that you’ll be colouring on) will give the tag flexibility and strength. (Meaning it won’t tear or get ruined if it gets bent!)

step1

I used a smaller tag as a guide and just ruled some light lines on the canvas, before cutting the tag shape out.

step2

Cut the cardstock you’re going to use to the same size. I’m using X-Press It cardstock, because I’m planning to use my Copic Markers. If you’re going to watercolor, you’re going to need different cardstock! So just go with whatever works for your project.

Stamp your image onto your cardstock. Hi, Sweater Kaylee!

step3

Then get to work coloring…

step4

To keep her outfit looking cohesive, but not over-busy, I stuck with the same color families and tones in her legwarmers, sweater and scarf. Since there are SO many patterns on all of these pieces of clothing, if each had been colored differently, she’d be a rainbow-blast and it might not look as ‘matching’. (Not that rainbows are a bad thing, at all!)

step5

For her leggings and boots, I used warm greys –don’t they look comfy?!

step6

For a little extra sumthin’-sumthin’, I added the stitch marks around the border of the cardstock tag, using a matching ink color.

step7 copy

Lastly I added some sentiments and adhered the cardstock tag to the canvas one!

I used some Some Odd Girl twine (there are still some colors left in our Odds & Ends section!) to tie it all to the basket.

final

Doesn’t this make a nice gift?! I slightly altered the sentiment which says “knit kit”. (I stamped the work knit twice, I just didn’t ink up the ‘n’ in the second word, and carefully stamped twice so I got the “k” the first time, then the ‘it’ the second! A Knit Kit!  You can’t see them in the photo, but I included some knitting needles in the basket too 🙂

That’s it for me!  I hope I’ve inspired you to look at your stamps, and see if you can make some fun, customized labels for gifts or storage around your home!  If you do, share them in our Linky Party in the top right sidebar, and with all of our Odd friends in the Some Odd Girl Facebook group!  We’d love to see ’em, and you could be spotlighted!

I’ll see you again soon!

Linda xx
