Aged Metal Gears Video Tutorial

Good morning, Oddies!

Alexis here with a aged metal gears video tutorial on making some realistic metal embellishments! I’m getting a little steampunk with the new Gears cut files and Steampunk Kaylee clear stamp and a boatload of mixed media. I hope you’re prepared to get a little messy with me today!

aged metal gears video tutorial tag using Steampunk Kaylee and Gears Cutfile

I used Ranger paint dabbers, Heidi Swapp Color Shine, Tim Holtz Distress Ink and Stains to create the aged metal texture of the gears.

*BONUS* This video is how I colored up Steampunk Kaylee, it is sped up and dubbed over with music to drown out my singing along to Disney tunes. You’re welcome. *Snickers*

Now here is the main event! This video shows you how I did the aged metal gears by distressing the Gears cut file and how I finished out my tag.

Well, that’s it for the videos from me today, gang! I hope you all enjoyed the fun, messy metal texturing and if you use this technique, I’d love to see your projects posted over at the Facebook Group and the Linky Party (Check out the right sidebar)! May is ending soon, but don’t fret, our June Linky Party is just around the corner! Some lucky winners will be announced soon!

And there is still time to participate in the Ruby Rock-it Blog Hop! We’re always full of fun happenings here at Some Odd Girl!

Teacup 3D Paper Pieced Bunny Tutorial

2014-05-22

Hello Oddies! Tabbatha here today to show you a very cool and useful technique. In fact my Teacup 3D Paper Pieced Bunny Tutorial is perfect for all those who have wanted to try 3D Paper Piecing, but aren’t sure where to start.

There are several images available in the Some Odd Girl shop that would be perfect for 3D Paper Piecing, but for today I chose the Teacup Bunny digi stamp as my muse. The finished card is super sweet, and yet you have to view it from all angles to really get the full effect of the 3D Paper Piecing technique.

When you lay the card flat, you can clearly see how much dimension has been added with the 3D Paper Piecing Technique. Teacup Bunny just POPS off the card!

When viewing from above you can’t really tell how many solid layers are underneath, plus all the foam tape has been hidden. Make sure to watch the video to see how I accomplish this!

So…are you ready to watch the video? I tried keeping it comprehensive and still relatively short, so there are some areas that have been fast forwarded. If you have any questions make sure to leave a comment here or in the Some Odd Girl Facebook Group!

We have a super active community on Facebook in the Some Odd Girl Community, so make sure you stop on by to play along with some fabulous bi-weekly challenges! Once you share it there, make sure you hop over to the Some Odd Girl Blog and link up any Some Odd Girl projects that you make during the month of May. 😀 And if you are like me where you don’t want to miss out on anything related to Some Odd Girl, sign up for the Newsletter!
